The Love in Action Challenge is a virtual race that was initiated in 2022 in memory of Shade Chairman, the Rev. Jack Grubbs.
The Challenge is a fun way to raise awareness and funds to help children with albinism in East Africa who are mistreated and sometimes hunted and murdered because of their skin color. SHADE (www.shadetz.org) works to change that heart-breaking reality for children with albinism in Tanzania through quality, inclusive education, advocacy and outreach.
Here’s How the Challenge works:
Everything can be done in one place – sign up, donate, log exercise, and track your progress. You can also see what others are up to and compete with friends. When you sign up you will be assigned a “race bib” number and given a link you can share with others to ask them to join you or support you.

- April: Create a team or join one by CLICKING HERE. Set a goal for your miles and fundraising. Share what you’re doing and ask sponsors to donate to your cause.
- May: Log your exercise during the whole month. Exercise can be done anywhere but miles are logged on a virtual course that takes participants across Tanzania from the SHADE Campus to the Serengeti. You don’t have to run! All kinds of activities are converted to miles and count toward your goal (think spin class, pickleball, even housework!)
